Any of you interested in 'writing' games?

Unread postby 01i » Sun Feb 15, 2015 9:26 pm

One of the things we'd love to get out of these boards, are a group of gamers who have an interest in designing games, writing rule-sets etc.

We've got several ideas for tabletop games that are in mid to advanced stages, but not close to being finished, and we'd love to find people who want to do more than just help 'balance' games or help 'tweak' a rule idea.

If you're interested in getting involved at a higher level, we'd love to hear from you. Also, if you've got a game idea yourself, but don't know what to do to make it a reality, we'd love to hear from you.

Could you share a little more insight on what exactly you are looking for? Playtesters, editors, writers, artists, etc.?

Apologies that it's taken so long to reply.

I've got a card game in development, I don't want to post too much about it in public just yet because it's quite an original concept.

The current state of play is that I require an additional series of artwork to be completed prior to the game being production worthy. I have the artists and colourists all lined up to complete the artwork, and will shortly be doing a kickstarter campaign to try and raise the funds I need to get the remaining artwork done.

However, I also need to finish developing the card game itself. All the basic structures are pretty much in place with regards to card placement, building types, the game board and military warfare, however there are places where the fundamentals could do with a little more fleshing out (specifically with regards to thievery and sorcery), and there are a whole series of trap/effect cards that have a `theme` but need to be fully fleshed out.

I personally have a background in game design going back about 10 years, but other than tabletop experience on the 'production' side of things, the games I have developed personally are browser-based rather than tabletop. This enables me to come up with some original ideas for a rule-set but I also want to find a small group of decent contributors to bounce ideas of and help me ensure that ideas that work online, also work on the table.

I am going to be creating a couple of forums on here for backers of the kickstarter, but I also wanted to give backers of Fightin' Funghi the chance of helping to provide ideas and early phase feedback if they want to.

As for what we're looking for specifically, what I really want are people with an interest in game development (from all aspects), but without the resources to go it alone. People that are happy to see their feedback or suggestions acted on in a commercial product, or event people that want help in realising their own commercial products.

Additional artists : I don't need artists specifically for the current project that I'm looking towards, however as we help other manufacturers produce content it's always good to have contact information for them. This also includes sculptors (digital or physical) and also cartographers.

Writers & Editors : Again, not a role that I specifically need filling at this immediate point in time, although definitely roles that could prove useful in the future. Especially if they have an interest in play-by-post roleplay writing or character/city description creation.

Play-testers : We'll need lot's of play testers as we start to work through the various projects we've got in store. What we most want to see are play-testers who can provide critical feedback on what they like, don't like and also identify things that are missing, or things that could be improved. While it's also useful to have play-testers who just try out the games and say "I like it" or "I don't like it", they are less useful in early development stages.
